Small Bells Ring is an artwork created by artists Heather Peak and Ivan Morison of Studio Morison, centred on The RV Furor Scribendi, a fully functioning sculptural narrowboat which operates as a living research vessel, housing a floating library of short stories and a retreat for writers and readers.

Library Books

UK Collection of Short Stories

This is the catalogue of the library, but it’s just to get us started. The boat can hold up to 1000 books and we are constantly collecting. Our curatorial approach is guided by a Star Trek Discovery/Donna Haraway/Octavia Butler/Robin Wall Kimmerer/Victoria Wood approach – and that’s how we decide what matters on most things. Please contact us with suggestions for new books, your favourite short stories or if you would like to donate to the collection. Currently we are a reference library with plenty of lovely places to read indoors and out. If you can’t get to us, do use our catalogue to order your own copy of a book through your local library.

The Library is made up of:

  • Short Story books from Lancashire Libraries and Coventry Libraries
  • Short story books from every UK Independent publisher. (Let us know if we’ve missed you out!)
  • Non-English language books focusing on Tamil, Urdu, Arabic, Romanian and Somalian, (but happy to add more languages to the collection).
  • New books from a regular bird’s eye view of what’s missing from a diverse expert bird’s eye mind.
  • Recommendations of short story books from anyone, anywhere, please get in touch.
